Colorado Church’s Unique “Horse Weekend” Event Draws Packed Crowds with Live Horses on Stage

Lafayette, COFlatirons Church successfully concluded their innovative “Horse Weekend” event on August 17, 2025, drawing capacity crowds across all services at their Lafayette campus and livestream locations throughout Colorado. The three-day event featured live horses on stage in a specially constructed 40-foot round pen, combining equine training demonstrations with messages about overcoming fear and finding purpose.

“Everyone got to be in the room and every service felt full,” said Micah DeYoung, Communications Director for Flatirons Church.

The weekend featured five unique performances across four services, with speaker Todd Pierce of Riding High Ministries using horse training as a powerful metaphor for personal transformation. Pierce, who transitioned from professional rodeo to ministry after a career-ending knee injury in 2002, has spent 18 years using horses to communicate spiritual principles.

“Living wild is just surviving while living in fear,” Pierce explained to audiences. “We wanted people to see that living free of fear means surrendering control to something greater than you.”

The event’s central theme, “Is Fear Holding You Back?” resonated with attendees as they watched wild horses overcome their fears through Pierce’s training methods. The church reported that the unique format created an unprecedented church experience, combining elements of live entertainment, spiritual reflection, and practical life application.

Flatirons Church livestreamed the event to all their Colorado campuses, including Aurora, Denver, Lafayette, Longmont, and West locations, as well as their online community. The Lafayette campus hosted the live performances featuring the horses, while other locations participated virtually during their regular service times.

The church emphasized that all horses were treated safely throughout the demonstrations, noting that the training methods used are common practice and that horses are comfortable performing in front of crowds under lights and music.

The free event required no advance registration, though the church encouraged RSVPs to help manage the larger-than-expected crowds. Church leadership recommended that attendees arrive early due to high attendance projections.

Pierce and his wife Leslie originally pursued rodeo championships before discovering their calling in ministry. Their approach focuses on inspiring individuals, particularly men, to align their hearts with their spiritual purpose through experiential events and equine-assisted learning.

Flatirons Church, with multiple campuses throughout the Denver metropolitan area, continues to explore innovative approaches to community engagement and spiritual development.
