Expert Parging Contractor
For the past decade, the company has been assisting homeowners, builders, project managers, and a variety of contractors with numerous parging and related small construction tasks. Parging serves as a protective coating system that shields foundation walls from elements such as ice, water, dirt, and sunlight, while also providing defense against issues like mold and rust. Additionally, it enhances the aesthetic appeal of walls through a range of textures and color options.
Solida Parging has been operating for the last six years, offering support to individuals and businesses with various parging and related projects on a small to medium scale. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, the company provides free estimates within the greater city area and its surroundings.
Our range of services includes;
- Traditional textured
- Smooth textured
- Acrylic
- ICF based
- Pressure treated plywood based
We take on a variety of projects to meet diverse needs, including repairs and patching of foundation, retaining, and basement walls. With a focus on detail, we manage nearly every aspect of the project from initial preparation to the final cleanup. A thorough walk-around will be conducted with the client to ensure complete satisfaction; if the clients are unavailable, we provide visual documentation such as pictures and videos.
Parging Installation Process
Parging is a thin layer of material that is particularly beneficial for foundation and basement walls. It effectively covers and reinforces the foundation with a protective coating against various hazards and external factors. Contrary to popular belief, concrete walls can deteriorate and weaken over time and necessitate protection with the appropriate parge coating. The same applies to ICF foundations, which are covered with Styrofoam that can degrade and discolor under UV rays (sunlight) and pressure-treated plywood that can swell and twist from prolonged exposure to moisture.
On a standard poured concrete foundation, the process begins with the removal of pebbles, rocks, and dirt from the walls. Any protruding metal pieces are cut off, and the walls are thoroughly washed to ensure they are free of dirt. Next, a vapor barrier membrane is applied to the exposed wood plates and rim joists, embedded with an A-mesh. If necessary or requested, we install flashings, typically above basement windows and ventilation covers. Concrete bonding adhesive is then applied before the thick parge coat is put on. For ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) foundations, we rasp the walls and install EIFS trims if needed. In projects involving ICF and acrylic parging, we embed the parge coat in fiberglass mesh before applying the requested texture and color. The site will be cleaned, and we will take care of the final touch-ups.
Parging Repair
If sections of the parging are crumbling or detaching, it is advisable to consider a parging repair service to revitalize the appearance of your foundation. Small cracks are typically harmless and considered normal; however, deeper cracks can allow dirt and water to penetrate, leading to the deterioration of the parging over time. When water infiltrates these cracks and freezes in winter, it expands, and when it thaws in summer, it can cause the parge coating to detach. Foundation shifts are another significant cause of parging cracks, especially at the junctions between garages and main buildings, where shifts can lead to the detachment of parging sections.
Additionally, color changes in the parging can result from prolonged exposure to moisture. Parging absorbs moisture, and when the weather warms up, it can leave stains that alter the color of the parging. This phenomenon can cause certain areas of the parging to appear darker and more matte. The company provides parging repairs of all kinds within the greater Edmonton area; however, for minor repairs like cracks and patches, we prefer to request visual evidence, such as pictures, rather than conducting an on-site visit for a free estimate.
Parging installations and repairs not only enhance the visual appeal of foundation walls but also provide an additional layer of protection against various hazards. It is an excellent idea to ensure your foundation walls look appealing while safeguarding the basement. Interested parties can reach out via phone or email, and a prompt response will be provided.
