Expert Parging Contractor
For the past decade, we have been assisting homeowners, builders, project managers, and various contractors with a range of parging and related small construction projects. Parging serves as a protective coating system that safeguards foundation walls from diverse elements such as ice, water, dirt, and sunlight, while also offering defense against issues like mold and rust. Additionally, it enhances the aesthetic appeal of walls through a variety of textures and color choices.
Solida Parging has been actively engaged in the industry for the past six years, providing support to individuals and businesses with various parging and related endeavors on a small to medium scale. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, we offer complimentary estimates within the greater city limits and surrounding areas.
We provide a variety of services, including;
- Traditional textured
- Smooth textured
- Acrylic
- ICF based
- Pressure treated plywood based
Our team undertakes a wide range of projects and addresses various needs, including repairs and patching of foundation, retaining, and basement walls. We pay close attention to detail, managing nearly every aspect of the project from initial preparation to final cleanup. A thorough walk-around is conducted with the client to ensure complete satisfaction; if the clients are unavailable, we provide visual documentation such as pictures and videos for their review.
Parging Installation Process
Parging is a thin layer of material that is particularly beneficial for foundation and basement walls. It effectively covers and reinforces the foundation with a protective coating against various hazards and external factors. Contrary to popular belief, concrete walls can deteriorate and weaken over time, necessitating protection through the appropriate parge coating. The same applies to ICF foundations, which are shielded with Styrofoam that can degrade and turn yellow under UV rays (sunlight), as well as pressure-treated plywood that may swell and warp due to prolonged exposure to moisture.
When working with a standard poured concrete foundation, we begin by clearing away pebbles, rocks, and dirt from the walls. Any protruding metal pieces are cut off, and we thoroughly wash the walls to ensure they are free from dirt. Next, we apply a vapor barrier membrane over the exposed wood plates and rim joists, embedding it with an A-mesh. If necessary or requested, we install flashings, typically above basement windows and ventilation covers. Afterward, we apply a concrete bonding adhesive before putting on a thick parge coat. For ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) foundations, we rasp the walls and install EIFS trims as needed. In projects involving ICF and acrylic parging, we embed the parge coat in fiberglass mesh before applying the desired texture and color. Finally, we clean the premises and perform any last touch-ups.
Parging Repair
If sections of the parging are crumbling or deteriorating, it may be time to consider a parging repair service to refresh the appearance of your foundation. While small cracks are generally harmless and considered normal, deeper cracks can allow dirt and water to infiltrate, leading to portions of the parging breaking off over time. Water entering these cracks can freeze in winter, expanding in size, and thaw in summer, causing the parge coating to detach. Additionally, foundation shifts are a significant cause of parging cracks, particularly in areas where the garage connects to the main structure, as these shifts can result in sections of parging falling off.
Color changes in the parging can also occur due to prolonged exposure to wet conditions. Parging absorbs moisture, and when the weather warms up, it can leave stain marks that alter the color of the parging. This effect may cause certain areas to appear darker and more matte. We offer parging repairs of all types within the greater Edmonton area; however, for minor repairs like cracks and patches, we prefer to request visuals such as pictures instead of scheduling a visit for a free estimate.
Parging installations and repairs not only enhance the visual appeal of foundation walls but also provide an additional layer of protection against various hazards. It is a wise choice to improve the appearance of your foundation walls while safeguarding the basement. Reach out to us via phone or email, and we will respond promptly.
